Centennial Celebration:  1908 – 2008

Follow- up to the Celebration held

September 26 – 28, 2008

Thank you to everyone for coming out to help us celebrate 100 years of educational excellence! On Friday, September 26, 2008 we proudly celebrated 100 years of teaching and learning at Old Scona.  All former students, staff and parents Of Strathcona Collegiate (1908-1912), Garneau Annex (1938-1958) and Old Scona (1955 to present) attended our Centennial Open House festivities.  Alumni walked through the hallways and into the classrooms that they knew so well.  They were able to relive and share with family and friends many stories and fond memories.  It didn't matter what years you attended the school, everyone came to celebrate a century of learning that has made a difference in the lives of so many people.

A wonderful schedule of events had alumni at the school first thing in the morning to tour classrooms or to sit down together to share memories.  Alumnus Ed Bean had coordinated having a display of vintage cars on the school lawn to greet visitors.  The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by hundreds of alumni and numerous dignataries including Lieutenant Governor Norman Kwong, Minister Dave Hancock and our oldest alumni at 101 years young Mr. Bill Kent.
The festivities continued late into the eveing with two showings of the play "100 Years of Change" and a dance that followed.
To relive the wonderful day, take a look at the many photos we now have on the site and keep Saturday, September 26th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. open in your calendars for our first Alumni Meeting at the school!
